When we integrated search engines into our daily workflow, we outsourced fact-retrieval. When we integrated AI, we began to outsource thinking. The operational reality is that most "AI-assisted" tasks involve a constant context-switching loop: you perform a mental task, hit a wall, query the AI, synthesize its response, and then re-integrate that into your broader work.
In engineering circles, this is often described as "context rot." On platforms like GitHub and various developer Discord servers, you’ll frequently see developers lamenting the inability to track a stack trace without a LLM helping them parse it.
